Folks who venture into the backcountry during the winter, whether to enjoy snow sports or just look at the scenery, can benefit from the Level 1 snow avalanche safety course being put on by the Spokane Parks Dept. Dec. 5-6.

First day will be at the Corbin Arts Center (507 W. 7th), the second day in the field. It’s open to anyone 16 and older. Cost is $157.

The seminar will focus on recognizing, evaluating and avoiding potential avalanches.
