Con Men Seeking Account Numbers

Sheriff’s deputies are warning residents about two men seeking bank account numbers and information about net worth from Shoshone County residents over the telephone.

The men claim to work for Medicare, saying they need the information as part of several changes in Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security that they must inform people about, the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Department said.

Health and welfare offices in Shoshone and Kootenai County have told deputies they do not do business over the phone or have representatives who need bank account numbers.

Questions about Medicare, Medicaid or Social Security should be directed to local health and welfare offices. Shoshone County residents can call health and welfare at 784-1351. In Coeur d’Alene, the number is 800-562-4298.
