2A/1A football

One State 2A football semifinal will be a private party for the Great Northern League.

Aaron Carr rushed for 177 yards on 29 carries Saturday to guide 10th-ranked Medical Lake (10-1) to a 27-14 quarterfinal win over East Valley (Yakima) at Prosser.

ML will play GNL neighbor Pullman next weekend in a semifinal, time and site to be determined.

The winner advances to Gridiron Classic III, Dec. 6 at the Tacoma Dome.

The Cardinals will have a chance to avenge their lone loss, a 42-0 drubbing by Pullman on Sept. 26.

Brandon Moore added 107 yards on 24 carries and sacked Red Devils quarterback Kyle Lundgren four times in the fourth quarter.

Kevin Schmidt and Jesse Moroni recovered fumbles that ML converted into touchdowns.

The Cardinals held the ball nearly 18 minutes in the first half. ML had a 347-329 edge in total yards and 21-15 in first downs.

Mike Ramirez and Tony Ayala combined for 187 yards on 26 carries for the Red Devils (8-3). Lundgren completed 11 of 21 for 161 yards.

Colfax 42, Cashmere 12

Tyson Curtis accounted for four TDs, passing for 88 yards and rushing for 64, as the second-ranked Bulldogs (10-0) defeated seventh-ranked Cashmere (8-3), also the Bulldogs, in a 1A quarterfinal at Pullman’s Martin Stadium.

Josh Robinson totaled 23 carries for 169 yards, and Kelly Jones 15 for 55 as Colfax finished with 305 yards on 54 carries. Curtis was 3 of 7, with one interception.

Colfax advances to next weekend’s semifinal against Okanogan, which defeated Royal 34-16 at Kennewick. The winner advances to the Gridiron Classic. Colfax is looking for its first championship appearance since it won the title in 1981.
