Olympic champion David Reid looked sharp in stopping Dan Connolly by a technical knockout in the fifth round of a junior middleweight fight at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, N.J.

Reid, the only gold medalist for the United States at the Atlanta Olympics, boosted his record to 6-0 with five knockouts.

Patchen Beauty, one of only nine white thoroughbreds in the history of racing, made her career debut at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky., finishing fifth in a field of 12 maiden 2-year-old fillies.

Alexei Yagudin skated to first place in the Russia Cup in St. Petersburg. Yevgeny Plushenko, also of Russia, took the silver. Russians Angelika Krylova and Oleg Ovsiannikov won the ice dancing event with two perfect 6.0s.

Austria’s Thomas Stangassinger won the sixth World Cup slalom of his career. Stangassinger had a combined winning time of 1 minute, 39.21 seconds, in the World Cup opener in Park City, Utah.
