Zali Steggall powered down a steep, icy slalom course near Park City, Utah, to give Australia its first-ever World Cup skiing victory by a woman.
Steggall, 23, posted the two fastest runs of the day in winning by .78 seconds over Sweden’s Ylva Nowen, with New Zealand’s Claudia Riegler denying American Kristina Koznick a spot on the podium by .40 seconds.
Italy’s Armin Zoeggeler, the 1994 Olympic bronze medalist, recorded the two best times of the day in winning the opening men’s World Cup luge event of the season in Sigulda, Latvia.
