Explosives Confiscated From Rathdrum Shed

From Staff Reports

Sheriff’s deputies and federal authorities confiscated a box of explosives found Thursday in a Rathdrum storage shed.

Fifteen sticks of a commercial explosive were found inside a wooden military ammunition box, according to a Kootenai County sheriff’s report. The sticks were described as “about 20 inches long and an inch in diameter and marked with Tovex 220,” the report said.

The storage unit was unlocked when the explosives were discovered, according to the report.

A Rathdrum man currently in the Kootenai County Jail on an unrelated charge and his estranged wife rented the unit at A-1 Storage.

The man’s father called deputies Thursday morning and told them he suspected explosives were being stored in the unit, according to the report.

A Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms agent called to the scene by deputies confiscated the explosives, which are legal with a permit. The ATF will track the origin of the explosives to determine if they were obtained legally. , DataTimes
