Bruce Devlin, who became the fourth Senior PGA Tour player stricken with cancer this year, should make a complete recovery following removal of a kidney, doctors said.

“My doctors told me the cancer was contained and had not gone outside the right kidney,” Devlin said Wednesday in a statement released through the tour. “I am still a little sore, but that was good news. They expect a full recovery.”

Devlin, 59, had his kidney removed Oct. 3 and expected to be released from Memorial Hospital in Scottsdale, Ariz., today at the latest.

“I appreciate all the get-well cards and letters I received last week from my fellow pros,” Devlin said. “It was very gratifying.”

Arnold Palmer, Jim Colbert and Larry Gilbert also were diagnosed with cancer this year. Palmer and Colbert had their prostate glands removed, and Gilbert is undergoing chemotherapy for lung cancer.
