Idaho Serves Itself A Volleyball Victory

Idaho finished with a season-high 12 aces Saturday while defeating North Texas 15-12, 15-4, 15-5 in a Big West volleyball match at Moscow, Idaho.

The Vandals (10-9, 4-2) are second in the Eastern Division. The Eagles dropped to 5-16, 0-6.

Idaho scored eight consecutive points after trailing the opener 7-4. Idaho’s Beth Craig had four aces, all in the third game.

Idaho outside hitter Alli Nieman of Sandpoint finished with seven kills and a .417 attack percentage. Anna Reznicek added 28 assists, five kills and six digs.

Aubrey Short of North Texas had 10 kills while hitting .320.

Lynn Robison’s 30 digs and 16 kills helped Eastern Washington (14-3, 7-1) to a 15-10, 17-15, 15-11 Big Sky Conference win over visiting Idaho State (5-12, 2-3).

Kim Exner added 13 kills and 12 digs, and Lacey Coover 16 digs and 11 kills for the Eagles, who hit .321 in the first game. Katie Leonhardt of the Bengals had 18 kills and 18 digs.

Diane Pascua had 16 kills while recording a .341 hitting percentage, and added 12 digs as visiting Gonzaga (8-9, 2-1) defeated Portland 15-7, 15-6, 15-11 in a West Coast Conference match.

Aimee Wilson added 14 digs and Nicole Lamoure 40 assists for GU. K.T. Lamb had 13 digs and Rebecca Eldridge 23 assists for the Pilots (7-12, 1-2).

Community Colleges of Spokane (16-19) lost to Chemeketa CC 15-11, 9-15, 15-4 in the title match of the 12-team Lower Columbia Crossover at Longview, Wash.

Chemeketa is 32-1 for the season.

Brooke Evans had 13 kills as Whitworth (4-12, 2-6) recorded a 15-8, 15-8, 14-16, 15-12 Northwest Conference of Independent Colleges win over visiting Lewis & Clark (7-10, 1-8).

College cross country

Idaho’s Josh Muxen and Jaime Stone finished 15th at the Washington State Invitational.

Muxen ran the 8,000 meters in 27 minutes, 57 seconds to guide the Vandals to dual wins over Gonzaga and Portland State. Stone finished the 5,000 in 19:51 as Idaho defeated Gonzaga in a dual match.

Prep volleyball

Sandpoint finished second in its pool during early play of the fourth annual Crossover Classic at four Spokane high school sites.

The Bulldogs were 5-4 in Pool H at North Central, finishing behind Olympia, ranked fifth among Washington 3A schools.

Sandpoint advanced to Lewis and Clark High, where it played for places 9-16.

Lake City and Coeur d’Alene finished fourth in their pools and could finish no higher than 25th at the 36-team tourney.

Lake City went 2-7 in Pool D at Shadle Park. Coeur d’Alene was 0-9 in Pool B at Lewis and Clark.

Ferris, Fife, Lewis and Clark, Selah, Olympia, Shadle, Prairie and Auburn advanced to the final eight by winning their pools.

Cassie Beyer served 10 points in the first game, and finished with 14 assists and 12 digs as Lakeland (12-8, 3-4) defeated visiting Kellogg 15-5, 9-15, 15-13 in the Intermountain League. The Hawks’ Melissa Adams added eight kills. The Wildcats are 3-11, 1-7.

Amy Fuchs had seven kills, and Angela Flint served the final four points in the first game and five straight in the second to lead Lakeside (12-8, 5-2) to a 15-9, 15-7 North Star League win over Kootenai (6-9, 1-6) at Plummer.

Prep cross country

Lake City’s boys and Coeur d’Alene’s girls placed second at the Bullpup Invite at Finch Arboretum.

Charlie Miller ran the 5,000-meter course in 16 minutes, 47 seconds to place third and lead LC to 70 points. Host Gonzaga Prep, second-ranked among 4A Washington teams, won with 25 points, guided by champion Jim Rucker’s 16:23.

Fifth-place Eva Unruh ran 20:56 to lead CdA to 81 points. Champion G-Prep scored 45, with Carly Barnes’ 20:10 leading the field.

Josh Sherven was sixth in 17:11 to guide Bonners Ferry’s boys to third place. Post Falls, in fifth, was topped by Jason Kunz’s ninth-place 17:23. LC’s girls placed fourth as Libby Gerber ran 20:36 to finish fourth. Post Falls’ Nicole Clutter placed sixth in 21:06.
