Man Held On $35,000 Child Support Charge

A Federal Way man has been arrested for failure to pay his child support, the U.S. attorney’s office said.

Kirk Von Ernsberger, 39, is accused of failing to pay more than $35,000 in child support payments. He pleaded innocent Wednesday to violating the Child Support Recovery Act, which makes it illegal for parents who live in one state to refuse to support children who live in another state.

Ernsberger skipped out on his monthly payments of $437.50 for two children starting in November 1992 and sporadically paid before then, prosecutors said.

Ernsberger will go to trial Dec. 15.
