Bobcats Rush Past Matadors

Eric Kinnaman and Travis Wright each rushed for 100 yards and Rob Compson threw three touchdown passes to lead Montana State to a 31-20 victory over visiting Cal State Northridge on Saturday.

The Montana State (4-2, 3-1) defense also picked off five Northridge (3-4, 1-2) passes, and MSU running back Kenyatte Morgan returned a kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown.

It was the first time this season an MSU running back reached the century mark. Wright had 25 carries and Kinnaman 22.

The Bobcats picked up 380 net yards - 228 on the ground and 152 in the air. Compson completed 12 of 23 passes.

Compson got Montana State on the board early in the second quarter with a 32-yard touchdown pass to Tony Vallez, and hit Terrence Crump from three yards out later in the period.

At Ogden, Utah, Scott Shields kicked three field goals and sparked the Wildcat (4-3, 2-2) defense.

On offense, Shields hit field goals from 42, 51 and 32 yards. He also averaged 44 yards on six punts, with a long punt of 66. On defense, he played free safety as the Wildcats held the Vikings (2-5, 1-3) to 171 yards of total offense.
