Networks Prepare For Sweeps

Ed Bark The Dallas Morning News

Let the carnage begin. Girding for the November sweeps ratings competition, TV is sending some shows and stars to their graves while leaving others all but dead.

Fox mostly will be filling Thursdays with bottom-feeding specials ranging from a repeat of “The World’s Scariest Police Chases No. 3” to the “all-new” “World’s Deadliest Swarms.” Casualties are the Damon Wayans-produced drama series “413 Hope St.,” which will be pre-empted from Oct. 30 through Nov. 7, and the sitcoms “Between Brothers” and “Living Single,” being jettisoned on Nov. 13, 20 and 27.

As previously reported, NBC is revamping Wednesdays by canceling the new sitcom “Built to Last” and evicting “The Tony Danza Show” until at least December. Replacement programming in November will include yet another edition of “Dateline” and a “TV Bloopers” special.

Numerous other scheduling moves are likely before the 28-day sweeps begin next Thursday.
