Wolverines Adding On

Compiled From Wire Services

Deciding that 102,501 seats just aren’t enough, the University of Michigan is planning to add 5,200 seats to perpetually sold-out Michigan Stadium.

The $6 million proposal has won unanimous approval from the university’s board in control of intercollegiate athletics. It goes to the board of regents next month.

“We want to make sure people who become students at Michigan will have an opportunity to attend Michigan football games,” athletic director Tom Goss said Wednesday. “Out of the seats that will be made available, students will have priority over anyone else.”

Because of the heavy demand, about 3,000 students have received split-package tickets rather than season tickets. Goss has invited some of the affected students to his box for each home game.
