Schreyer, Dormann Lead

Cindy Schreyer sank a 50-foot birdie putt on the final hole Friday to earn a share of the first-round lead in the LPGA Safeway Golf Championship at Portland.
Schreyer was tied with Dana Dormann at 6-under-par 66 on the par-71, 6,300-yard Columbia-Edgewater Country Club course.
Twenty-three golfers were within three shots of the lead, setting the stage for a wide-open battle through the weekend.
Four were one shot back at 5-under 67, including the No. 2 player on this year’s earnings list, Karrie Webb.
Among a group of eight at 4-under 68 was Sherri Steinhauer, who had a hole-in-one on the par-3, 151-yard 15th hole.
Tracy Hanson of Rathdrum, Idaho, shot 72 and Clarkston’s Robin Walton a 73.

Rocco Mediate grabbed the midway lead in the Canadian Open and was upstaged by Tiger Woods, who once again struggled on a course set up for a major championship, and missed the cut.
Mediate was at 5-under-par 135 after 36 holes on a Royal Montreal Golf Club course tailored with narrow fairways and deep rough.
Phil Tataurangi was one stroke behind at 136 and PGA Championship winner Davis Love III was at 137.
Woods had made the cut in all 25 PGA Tour events since turning pro, the 1996 British Open as an amateur and three international events going back to his missed cut in the 1996 Scottish Open, when he was still an amateur.
Senior PGA Tour
Qualifier Walter Hall shot a 6-under-par 66 to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Bank One Classic at Lexington, Ky.
