Greg Norman regained the top spot in world golf rankings after his second-place finish at the Canadian Open.

Norman takes over from Tiger Woods, who missed the cut for the first time as a professional and was dropped to second place.

Patrick Rafter’s victory over Greg Rusedski in the U.S. Open final has lifted him to a career-high No. 3 in the ATP World Rankings.

Rafter has won 54 of his 75 matches this year but lost his first five finals this year before winning his first Grand Slam title on Sunday.

Rusedski climbed nine places to No. 11, equaling Roger Taylor’s best-ever tennis ranking by a Brit. Taylor attained that ranking in 1973.

As expected, the University of Michigan named Tom Goss athletic director, returning the former All-Big Ten player to his alma mater.

Goss, 51, a former executive with PIA Merchandising Co., has no experience as an athletic director.
