Man Serving Term For Bank Robbery

Compiled From Wire Services

A Hayden Lake man began serving a 30-month federal prison sentence for bank robbery this week.

U.S. District Court Judge Edward J. Lodge also ordered Shane L. Barlau, 20, on Monday to serve three years probation and perform 100 hours of community service.

Barlau was convicted of robbing the Bank of America branch on Canfield Avenue near Silver Lake Mall. On March 20, Barlau gave a teller a note demanding $5,000, the U.S. Attorney’s office said. Barlau left the bank with $900 and his note.

Coeur d’Alene police officers arrested Barlau near the bank. They found the money stuffed in his sock and recovered the note in a wooded area Barlau walked through after leaving the bank, the U.S. Attorney’s office said.
