Game Wildcats Lose Inaugural
Mt. Spokane came up short in its football debut Friday night, dropping a 28-14 decision at Coeur d’Alene.
The Wildcats (0-1), with no seniors, showed few signs of inexperience early. They gobbled up 6 minutes on their first possession, driving 52 yards in 14 plays to take a 7-0 lead on a 2-yard run by quarterback Casey Clark.
CdA rebounded immediately, scoring on its first two possessions - both on short runs by junior Pat Goodwin - for a 14-7 lead.
CdA opened a 21-7 lead on a 7-yard pass from quarterback Andy Molenar to running back Vince Rossi.
Goodwin added another TD on a 19-yard run for a 28-7 lead.
The Wildcats capped their scoring on their first drive of the second half on a 15-yard pass from Clark to Robert Schuyler.
“I thought our effort was commendable,” Mt. Spokane coach Mike McLaughlin said. “Our goal was to improve in the second half and we shut them out.
“I was reminded once again that sophomores are sophomores.”
