False Report May Lead To Charges
Two teenagers who lied to officers about a stabbing incident at a high school dance could face a charge of filing a false police report, authorities said.
Officers determined Wednesday that Terrance Roberts, 18, was stabbed accidentally while he and a group of friends popped balloons with a pocket knife at a Lake City High School dance, Coeur d’Alene police Capt. Carl Bergh said. The two are friends and there was no malicious intent, Bergh said.
Roberts was treated at Kootenai Medical Center for cuts to his arm and hip and released. He told police who interviewed him in the emergency room last Thursday that he was stabbed by an unknown person while he stood in a doorway at the dance.
Russell White, 18, told an officer assigned to the school Wednesday that he accidentally stabbed Roberts when his friend walked in front of him, said Jay White, the boy’s father.
White said he and Roberts concocted the other story on the way to the hospital because they were worried they would get into trouble for having a knife at the dance.
Results of the police investigation have been forwarded to the Kootenai County prosecutors office, which will decide what charges, if any, will be filed, Bergh said.
