Husband Sought In Beating, Rape

From Staff Reports

Police were searching Tuesday for a 43-year-old man accused in the beating and rape of his estranged wife in a Coeur d’Alene motel room.

The 27-year-old woman was badly bruised on her neck, torso and legs when she was treated at Kootenai Medical Center after the Saturday night attack.

She told police her husband of about 15 months had asked her to come by his room at the Budget Host Pleasant Inn to pick up some of his belongings, according to a police report. The two argued and she tried to leave, but he blocked the door and began choking her.

The man, whose name was not released, then slammed his wife against a wall and threw her onto a bed. He continued to choke her, and she lost consciousness when the two tumbled to the floor.

She was naked from the waist down and lying on the bed when she regained consciousness, according to the report. Her husband was standing over the top of her.

She eventually managed to leave the room and drive to her mother’s Hayden Lake house, where she called police.
