Starbucks Will Expand To Taiwan

From Staff And Wire Reports

Starbucks Coffee International continued its global expansion Tuesday, signing an agreement with the President Group to open retail coffee shops in Taiwan.

The first Starbucks store is to open in Taiwan early next year.

“Our intimate knowledge of the Taiwanese marketplace, combined with Starbucks’ leadership and extensive knowledge of the coffee industry, makes us the perfect partners to bring the Starbucks experience to the Taiwanese people,” said C.Y. Gao, chairman of President Group, a leading food company and retailer in Taiwan.

Taiwan will be Starbucks’ fourth overseas market. It opened its first Asian store in Japan in August 1996, followed by Singapore in December. Its stores are scheduled to open in the Philippines before the end of this year.
