Maria Colon Coeur d’Alene

Funeral Mass for Maria T. Colon, 68, will be today at 9:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Post Falls. Burial will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Spokane. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Colon, who was born in Puerto Rico, died Monday.

She grew up in Puerto Rico and attended schools there. She moved to the United States in 1951.

Mrs. Colon lived in New York until moving to California in 1959. She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1995 to be near family.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.

Survivors include her husband, Ismael; a son, Ismael Colon of California; a daughter, Elizabeth DeArtola of Coeur d’Alene; three brothers and two sisters, all of Puerto Rico.

Callie Knapp Coeur d’Alene

Visitation for Callie E. Knapp, 86, is planned for today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Memorial service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral chapel.

Mrs. Knapp, who was born in Roundup, Mont., died Tuesday.

She moved to Coeur d’Alene in the 1930s from Montana and moved to the Silver Valley in 1984.

She returned to Coeur d’Alene in 1995 and had served as the activities director at Coeur d’Alene Homes.

Mrs. Knapp was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Her husband, Carl, died in 1966.

Survivors include two sons, Frank Knapp of Coeur d’Alene and Roger Knapp of Pinehurst, Idaho; two daughters, Elaine Powers of Kingston, Idaho and Marilyn Marson of Duvall, Wash.; a sister, Margarite Stanley of Montana; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Jason Starr Fort Lewis, Wash.

Service for Jason Lane Starr, four months, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.

Jason was born in Tacoma on May 19. He died Tuesday.

He moved to Fort Lewis in August.

Survivors include his parents, Ed and Angela Starr; his grandparents, Scott and LeTana Lickfold and Lane and Judy Starr, all of Athol, Idaho; his great-grandparents, John and Pearl Knack of Post Falls, Marlene Braun of Blanchard, Idaho, Richard Braun of Hayden Lake, Idaho, Evelyn and Henry Starr of Hayden Lake, and Charles Hunting.

Scott Gustafson Post Falls

Service for J. Scott Gustafson, 47, was Saturday at Pleasant Home Baptist Church in Roaring River, N.C. Burial followed at the church cemetery. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Wilkesboro, N.C., was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Gustafson, who was born in Harve de Grace, Md., died Sept. 17.

He graduated in 1972 from the University of North Carolina.

He worked as a technical and product development advisor for United Coatings in Greenacres.

He was a 10-year Post Falls resident.

Mr. Gustafson was a member of Pleasant Home Baptist Church.

Survivors include his parents, Paul and Wilma Gustafson of Roaring River; two sisters, Vickie Key of Roaring River and Beth Elledge of North Wilkesboro; and two brothers, Paul Gustafson of Greenville, N.C., and Richard Gustafson of Roaring River.

William Price Spokane

No service will be held for William Kay “Bill” Price, 71. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Price, who died Monday, was born in Colville, Wash.

He served in the Army during World War II and worked for Colville Auto Park for more than 40 years before retiring in 1993.

Mr. Price moved to Spokane County two months ago.

He was a member of the Colville American Legion.

His survivors include a brother, Lawrence Price of Spokane; and a sister, Eileen Adams of Why, Ark.

Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Spokane.

Afton Tracy Spokane

Memorial service for Afton Ora Tracy, 68, is set for will be at 1 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Tracy, who was born in Blackfoot, Idaho, died Tuesday.

She and her husband, Jack Tracy, owned and operated the Chung King Inn, the lunch counter at P.M. Jacoy’s and Tracy’s Cafe until their retirement in the late 1980s.

She was a 28-year resident of Spokane.

Her husband of 45 years died in 1996.

Survivors include a son, Ralph Tracy of Spokane; two daughters, Linda Kilmer and Vickie Tracy, both of Spokane; four brothers, Floyd and William Buttcane, both of Blackfoot, and Don and James Buttcane, both of California; two sisters, Wilma Westwood of Pocatello, Idaho and Nellie Birdwell of California; five granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.

Vera Krewson Spokane

Graveside service for Vera F. Krewson, 90, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements and cremation.

Mrs. Krewson, who was born in Dartford, England, died Tuesday.

She moved to Canada and then to Wardner, Idaho, as a child.

Mrs. Krewson worked at the Wardner Store for more than 30 years. After retiring in the early 1960s she moved to Spokane.

Survivors include a son, Fred Krewson of Newman Lake; a brother, Richard Fudge of Spokane; three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.

Lucy (Fritz) Magnuson Spokane

Memorial service for Lucy Joy (Fritz) Magnuson, 70, will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Magnuson, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Tuesday.

She was a homemaker and a member of the First Church of the Open Bible.

Her husband, Norman, died in 1995.

She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Nickerson of Spokane; two sons, Norman and Edward Magnuson, both of Spokane; three sisters, Georgia Strebeck of Worley, Idaho, Edith Boyd and Darlene Bowsher, both of Spokane; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Olive (Walker) Fleener Spokane

Visitation for Olive M. (Walker) Fleener, 95, will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Born in Lincoln County she died Wednesday.

She was a homemaker and a member of Truth Rebecca Lodge.

Her first husband, Guy Walker, died in 1947. Her second husband, Charles Fleener, died in 1964.

Mrs. Fleener is survived by a son, Ronald Walker of Priest Lake, Idaho; eight grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren and four great-greatgrandchildren.

Helen Christensen Spokane

Memorial service for Helen C. Christensen, 65, will be at 11 a.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral HomeSouth.

Mrs. Christensen, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Sunday.

She graduated from Rogers High School.

Mrs. Christensen, along with her husband, owned and operated Lloyd’s Tire Service. She retired in 1986.

She was a member of Christ Gospel Fellowship.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Lloyd; three sons, Tom, Lloyd and Dan Christensen, all of Spokane; a daughter, Christine Hall of Spokane; a sister, Evelyn Hanson of Spokane; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Gospel Mission.

Darrel ‘Scotty’ Bagnell Eloika Lake, Wash.

Service for Darrel “Scotty” Bagnell, 79, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Spokane. Burial will follow in the Chattaroy Community Cemetery. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Bagnell, a former Chattaroy, Wash., resident, died Sunday.

He was born in Bismarck, N.D., and married Mabel Handegard in 1945 in Chattaroy.

During World War II he served with the Army in the South Pacific. After returning to the United States he produced shows for injured servicemen at Veterans Hospitals.

He worked as an operating engineer in road construction and maintenance and was employed at Fairchild Air Force Base until his retirement in the early 1980s.

Mr. Bagnell was a Gold Card holder of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association, was the winner of the Calgary Stampede in 1947 and competed in rodeos throughout the United States, Canada and Cuba. He was also a member of the Operating Engineers, Local 370 in Spokane.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mable; a son, Mickey Bagnell of Chattaroy; a daughter, MeMe Anderson of Ritzville, Wash.; two brothers, Lyle Bagnell of Huson, Mont., and Dale Bagnell of Missoula; a sister, Marlene Doolittle of Polson, Mont.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Gospel Mission, Spokane Humane Society or St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

Ronald Bull Spokane

Memorial service for Ronald Eugene Bull, 54, is planned for 3 p.m. Saturday at Manito Presbyterian Church. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Stillwater, Okla., Mr. Bull died Monday.

He graduated in 1961 from Pullman High School.

Mr. Bull was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in 1964 and became a pioneer in renal dialysis, commencing dialysis in 1965.

He moved to Yakima where he was involved in an orchard and greenhouse business. He also began building fine furniture.

He moved to Seattle, then to Spokane in the mid-1980s. He started to publish The Chatty Thing, a newsletter for people with renal disease.

He was a member of Manito Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Bull is survived by seven brothers, Richard Bull of Richland, Steven Bull of Auburn, Wash., Joseph Bull of Reno, Nev., Owen Bull of Portland, Dennis Bull of Sand Springs, Okla., Cliff Bull of Hominy, Okla., and Richard Bull of Murray, Utah; and two sisters, Sharon Monfort of Terlton, Okla., and Daphne Morgan of Salt Lake City.

Rozella (Sponcler) Seagren Boy River, Minn.

Graveside service for Rozella (Sponcler) Seagren, 76, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Seagren, who was born in Long Prairie, Minn., died Monday.

She owned and operated the Pancake Paragon in Spokane with her first husband, Adrian “Red” Sponcler, for many years. He preceded her in death.

She married Bob Seagren in 1968 and moved to Boy River, Minn., after 30 years in Spokane.

Mrs. Seagren was a member of the Restaurant Association in Spokane.

Survivors include her husband; a sister, Alice; and two brothers, Jerry and George, all of Paradise, Calif.; and a nephew, Gene Sponcler of Chattaroy, Wash.

Rev. Virgil Wright Veradale

Graveside service for the Rev. Virgil E. Wright, 90, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Rev. Wright, who was born in Norman, Okla., died Monday.

He moved to Spokane in the early 1940s and founded the Greenacres Tabernacle.

His wife of 63 years, Mabel, died in 1992.

Survivors include two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Raymond Hojem San Diego

Service for Raymond Melvin Hojem, a former Spokane resident, was Sunday at San Diego Memorial Chapel in San Diego.

Mr. Hojem, who was born in Minot, N.D., died Sept. 15. He was 86. He worked as a carpentry instructor for Spokane Community College for 15 years and retired from teaching in 1976.

He was also a former ordained minister with Assemblies of God in Spokane.

He moved to the San Diego area 20 years ago.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, May; three sons, Ray Hojem Jr. of Englewood, Calif., Gordon Hojem of Irvine, Calif., and Dave Hojem of San Diego; a daughter, Marilyn Lyons of Torrence, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Myrtle (Ray) Newton Rockford

Memorial service for Myrtle M. (Ray) Newton, 94, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Fairfield. A memorial luncheon will be at the McIntosh Grange in Rockford following the service. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Fairview Cemetery in Rockford. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Newton, who was born in Idaho, died Sept. 18.

With her husband, Leslie, she owned a music store and participated in a band in Spokane for several years.

Mrs. Newton moved to Rockford in 1959.

Her husband preceded her in death.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Patty Clark Nine Mile Falls

Vault burial service for Patty Ann Clark, 69, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Clark, who was born in Duncan, Okla., died Tuesday.

She graduated from high school in Duncan.

She was a member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Clark is survived by her husband of 52 years, Clifford; five daughters, Terry and Karen Clark, both of Spokane, Donna Philpott of Sunnyvale, Calif., Cheryl Miller of Newman Lake and Janice Leitz of Richland; a son, Clifford Clark of Bremerton; a brother, Bill Ellis of Bonham, Texas; and four grandchildren.

Alfred Janish Spokane

Service for Alfred E. Janish, 87, will be at 11 a.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Janish, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Monday.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in Europe.

He worked in the landscape business and had several nurseries and a greenhouse where he grew stock. He also served as a mentor to younger associates entering the business.

Memberships include the Spokane Nurseryman’s Association, in which he served as an officer until his retirement in the 1970s. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Martha; two sons, James and Thomas; a brother, Emil; and a sister, Elsie.
