Vikings Crush Bengals

Coeur d’Alene finds itself in solid position heading into the second half of the North Idaho League girls soccer season.

Jamie Jerde accounted for one goal and two assists Thursday as the Vikings (7-4-0 overall, 6-1-0 NIL) defeated visiting Lewiston 5-2.

CdA trails first-place Sandpoint by one game. The Vikings are one game ahead of third-place Moscow, which travels to Sandpoint on Saturday.

Elizabeth Hail added two goals and Kara Kovatch one goal and one assist to aid CdA’s effort. The Bengals (2-4-1) trailed 4-0 after 69 minutes, then Jessica Fritts and Carmen Zobel traded off goals and assists.

Holly Davidson scored a pair of first-half goals when the defense failed to clear the ball, and Moscow (6-2) went on to a 3-0 non-league win over visiting Pullman, the co-leader in Washington’s Great Northern League.

Emily Styer scored Moscow’s final goal, at 35 minutes.

Volleyball

Lake City (4-7) lost a non-leaguer at Cheney, 15-6, 17-15, 15-12.

Lindsay Herbert had 12 digs and 11 kills, Brianne Taylor nine kills and eight digs, and Jennifer Derr 25 assists for Lake City.

St. Maries (12-1, 5-0) scored the first 14 and final 10 points of the match in defeating visiting Lakeland 15-3, 15-2 during a matchup of the top two teams in the Intermountain League.

Bridgette O’Dwyer had eight kills and three blocks, Jamie Hammes served 10 of 10, and freshman Ariene Wilcott added five kills and five blocks for the Lumberjacks. Cassie Beyer had four assists, and Becky Hardy and Melissa Adams three kills apiece for the Hawks (7-3, 2-2).

Also in the IML, Jennifer Reed’s 16 assists and five kills guided Priest River (5-3, 3-3) to a 15-10, 15-13 win at Kellogg (2-8, 0-5).

The Spartans’ Candace Carpenter added eight kills. For the Wildcats, Amber Goodson totaled six kills and three blocks, and Casey Rainio added 10 assists.
