George Chicarilli Jr. Spirit Lake, Idaho

Memorial service for George Chicarilli Jr., 45, was held Saturday at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel.

Mr. Chicarilli, who was born in Los Angeles, died Thursday from cancer.

He graduated from high school in California in 1970 and was a self-made entrepeneur and salesman, moving to Hayden Lake in 1979.

Mr. Chicarilli created his first water-ski rope in his garage before moving to Seattle in 1983 and became the founder of Straightline Water Sports, manufacturing ski ropes.

He later returned to the Hayden Lake area and owned his own water-ski rope company in Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. Chicarilli recently moved to Spirit Lake.

Survivors include his wife, Linda; two sons, Gary Kline of Coeur d’Alene and Rodney Hafer of La Grande, Ore; two daughters, Brandy Chicarilli of Coeur d’Alene and Crystal Passeck of Seattle; his parents, George and Irene Chicarilli, both of California; a brother, Rocco Chicarilli of California; a sister, Carlina Shelby of Coeur d’Alene; and a granddaughter, Karissa Kline.

Carmen Baergen Spokane

Funeral service for Carmen Priscilla Baergen, 86, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Baergen, who was born in Forsythe, Mont., died Friday.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Baergen is survived by five daughters, Vina Mikkelsen of Spokane, Rose Murphy of Mountlake Terrace, Wash., Carmen Kritzer and Delores Knight, both of California, and Judy Plunkitt of Chattaroy; four sons, Cy Meidling of Billings, Mont., Ed Meidling of Spokane, Jerry Meidling of Hermiston, Ore., and Mike Gauger of Thornton, Colo.; two stepdaughters, Dorothy Janzen of Kansas and Jetta Kosloski of Seattle; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildrenn.

Walter Hurd Coeur d’Alene

Graveside service for Walter Lee Hurd, 77, will be held Monday at noon at Forest Cemetery, Riverview Section in Coeur d’Alene. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hurd, who was born in Oregon, died Friday.

He had lived in Oregon before living in Puyallup, Wash., for 25 years.

He was a brick layer before retiring in 1983.

Mr. Hurd moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1992 and was a member of the Masons Union Local 526 in Washington.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Dorothy; a son, Pete Hurd of Puyallup, Wash.; two stepsons, Kelly Newton of Oklahoma and Phillip Newton of Arizona; a daughter, Alice Hurd of West Virginia; a stepdaughter, Carolyn George of Oregon; a brother, Ted Hurd of Oregon; a sister, Alice Dudek of Bellevue, Wash.; and numerous grandchildren.

Clarence ‘Bud’ Jordan Spokane

Funeral service for Clarence A. ‘Bud’ Jordan, 85, will be at 11 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Jordan, who was born in Jamestown, N.D., died Thursday.

He worked as an auto technician for American Motors.

Mr. Jordan was a member of the Washington State Trappers Association.

His wife, Minnie Jordan, died in 1987.

He is survived by a daughter, Lurane Johnson of Spokane; three sons, Chuck and Clyde Jordan, both of Deer Park, and Elzya Jordan of Spokane; four sisters, Mary Link of Mead, Lloy McGee of Clark Fork, Idaho, Patricia Knutsen of LaCrosse, Wash., and Hazel Dawson of Gold Bar, Wash.; four brothers, Arnold Jordan of Turner, Ore., Harvey and Ralph Jordan, both of Coeur d’Alene, and Leslie Jordan of San Mateo, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Nina Miller Spokane

Memorial service for Nina L. Miller, 80, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Born near Colville, Wash., she died Wednesday.

Mrs. Miller graduated from Colville High School and Northwestern Business College.

In 1937 she married Clarenece Miller.

After graduation she worked at Sacred Heart Hospital and then as a secretary for School District 81 for more than 30 years.

Mrs. Miller wrote a biography of her mother, titled “Heart of Hulda,” detailing life on the family homestead near Colville.

She was a member of the Parent Teacher Association, School Secretaries Association, Business Sorority, Ivanhoe Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, Eagles and Moose lodges, Brotherhood Of Friends, Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church and Fairwood Council.

Her husband died in 1989.

Survivors include three sons, George Miller of Salt Lake City, and Raymond and Steven Miller, both of Spokane; a brother, Franklin Hanson of Walla Walla; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Melvin Schumacher Spokane

Funeral service for Melvin Schumacher, 70, will be at 2 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Moran Prairie Cemetery.

Mr. Schumacher, who was born in Loyalton, S.D., died Thursday.

He was a 60-year resident and worked as a truck driver.

Mr. Schumacher is survived by his wife of 44 years, Bernice; a son, Gary Schumacher of Spokane; four daughters, Dennese, Darlene and Gina Schumacher, and Susan Ziemantz, all of Spokane; two sisters, Esther Ulbright of Spokane and Ruth Harshaw of Hayden Lake, Idaho; a brother, Ervin Schumacher of Spokane; and six grandchildren.
