Dear Heloise: I have found several uses for those scoops that come in large detergent boxes.

One scoopful of water is enough to fill my iron without having to put the iron underneath the faucet. I also use these scoops in my coffee, flour, sugar and oatmeal containers. No more dirtying measuring spoons. - P.B., Indianapolis

Thanks for sharing your uses of the handy detergent scoops.

We did call a leading detergent manufacturer and they said they wouldn’t recommend using the scoops with any food items, as the plastic is probably not food grade.

Some other good uses for them are scooping birdseed and dog food. - Heloise
