Willis Brown Spokane
Memorial service for Willis D. Brown, 81, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Brown, who was born in Idaho Falls, died Wednesday.
He graduated from Nampa High School.
A certified public account, Mr. Brown worked for 33 years for the accounting firm of Morris, Lee and Company, becoming a senior partner in 1972.
He opened offices in Wenatchee, Chelan, Wash., Oroville, Wash., Walla Walla and Lewiston.
After his retirement, he and his wife, Jean, traveled extensively by trailer through the United States and Mexico.
Mr. Brown was a member of the Holiday Ramblers, Lions Club, Applearians of Wenatchee, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and was a volunteer of the year for the Friends of Manito.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years; two sons, Curtis Brown of Plano, Texas, and Gregory Brown of East Wenatchee, Wash.; a daughter, Barbara Snyder of San Angelo, Texas; a sister, Aletha Moores of Pocatello, Idaho; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of Manito or the Union Gospel Mission.
Milton ‘Bill’ Hudson Palm Springs, Calif.
Memorial service for Milton “Bill” Hudson, 86, was Friday in Palm Springs. The Palm Springs Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hudson, who was born in Newark, N.J., died March 27.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a flight crew chief, a hanger flight chief, an aerial engineer, and a co-pilot on C-46, C-47, B-25, B-29 and P-38 aircrafts in the Asiatic Pacific, China, Burma and India theaters. With 538 combat flight hours, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, four Battle Stars and the Bronze Star.
Following the war, he graduated from Stevens Institute in New Jersey, in metallurgy.
In 1944 he married Helen Haldt and worked as a stockbroker for 20 years.
Mr. Hudson spent his winters in Palm Springs and his summers in Nine Mile Falls for 14 years.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Hump Pilots Association and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Nick Hudson of Park City, Utah, and Phil Hudson of Spokane; and seven grandchildren.

Irene Scholfield Buckingham Moscow, Idaho
Service for Irene Ruth Scholfield Buckingham, 79, will be held today at 11 a.m. at Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow.
Mrs. Buckingham, who was born in Kansas, died Monday.
She grew up in Colorado and graduated from high school there before moving to Moscow in 1940.
In Moscow she was a cook at the Army kitchen on the University of Idaho campus and at the Nobby Inn. In the 1950s she was a cook at Wade’s Motel and Cafe and later worked as a meat wrapper at Safeway.
She also worked as the custodian at McDonald Elementary School and as a housekeeper.
Mrs. Buckingham was a Goodwill representative in Moscow until her retirement.
Her husband, Harold, died in 1984.
Survivors include three daughters, Bernadean Yada of Moses Lake, Betty Teichmer of Moscow and Jackie (Cox) Tomsha of Spokane; a son, Bert Buckingham of Moscow; three sisters, Winona Harris, Anna Hergenreder and Anna Miller, all of Colorado; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Anna Ruks Spokane
Memorial service for Anna Ruks, 92, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church. A private burial will precede the memorial service at Fairmount Memorial Park Cemetery. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Ruks, a 22-year resident of Spokane, died Thursday.
She was born in Valmiera, Latvia, and had worked as a seamstress in a clothing factory.
Mrs. Ruks was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church, the Ladies Ministry at the church and the Quilters Group.
Survivors include two daughters, Biruta Bonanno of Spokane and Arija Ruks of Houston; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Viola Allen Spokane
Funeral for Viola M. Allen, 92, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Pines Cemetery Mausoleum. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Allen, who was born in Mica, died Tuesday.
She graduated from Valleyford High School and Cheney Normal School.
Mrs. Allen taught school in Liberty, Wash., where she was also a custodian for two years. She was a cook for four years for the U.S. Forest Service at the Blister Rust camps.
She also worked for 20 years as a housekeeper and cook for the late Dr. Melvin Aspray.
Mrs. Allen was a member of Greenacres Grange and Central United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Delbert, died in 1960.
Survivors include a son, Gordon Allen of Renton, Wash.; two daughters, Marie Floch of Plummer, Idaho, and Jean Arnold of Spokane; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Central United Methodist Church or to the American Diabetes Association.
Edwin Johnson Badger Lake, Wash.
A memorial service for Edwin James Johnson, 78, will be held at a later date this spring.
Mr. Johnson, who was born in Washtucna, Wash., died March 22 in Sacramento, Calif.
In 1941 he married Barbara Davis in Pullman and then served in the Army during World War II with Company E of the 161st Division.
After the war, he returned to Pullman, where he went to work for Brown and Holter Chevrolet for the next 30 years.
Mr. Johnson retired and moved to Badger Lake. He spent his winters in California.
He was a member of the Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Judy McDonald of Sacramento; a son, Randall Johnson of Pullman; a brother, Randall Johnson of Spokane; a sister, Lucile Morris of San Leandro, Calif.; and two granddaughters.

Mabel Bartholomen Vancouver, Wash.
Memorial service for Mabel E. Bartholomen, 89, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South.
Mrs. Bartholomen, a former 65-year resident of Spokane, died Tuesday.
She was born in Sharon, Wash., and in 1926 graduated from Sharon High School.
Mrs. Bartholomen moved to Spokane in 1926 and worked for J.I. Case Tractor from 1928 to 1933.
She was a member of Mountain View Church of the Nazarene, Sinto Senior Center and the Troubadour Band.
Mrs. Bartholomen moved to Vancouver seven years ago.
Her husband of 47 years, William, died in 1980.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Thur of Battle Ground, Wash.; a brother, Clarence Reeck of Tacoma; three grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
Ruby Holland Cle Elum, Wash.
Graveside service for Ruby Olive Holland, 87, will be at noon Sunday at Spokane Memorial Gardens in Spokane. Steward and Williams Funeral Directors in Ellensburg is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Holland, who was born in Deer Park, died Thursday.
In 1927 she married Carl Holland in Priest River, Idaho, and they moved to Weippe, Idaho.
They relocated to Medical Lake, where they owned and operated a barber and beauty shop for several years. In the late 1940’s they moved their shop to the South Hill in Spokane.
Mrs. Holland moved to Cle Elum 11 years ago.
Her husband died in 1980.
Survivors include a grandson, Gary Holland of Cle Elum; two granddaughters, Judy Johnstone of Federal Way, Wash., and Syble Anderson of Covington, Wash.; and eight great-grandchildren.
Estella Hastings Chewelah, Wash.
No service will be held for Estella Hetty Hastings. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hastings, 83, died Wednesday.
She was born in Ashby, Neb., and was a 46-year resident of Chewelah.
Mrs. Hastings was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth.
Charlene Jones Sacramento, Calif.
Funeral for Charlene Joy Jones, 40, was Feb. 18 at the Christ Community Church in Carmichael, Calif.
Mrs. Jones, who was born in Scottsbluff, Neb., died Feb. 12.
She graduated from Ritzville (Wash.) High School in 1976 and from Central Washington University in 1980 with a bachelor of science degree.
Mrs. Jones completed her internship in dietetics in 1988 in Fresno, Calif., and worked at Sutter’s General Hospital in Sacramento for several years.
She was a volunteer for Hillsdale Parents Co-op Preschool and for the American Heart Fund. She was a member of the Christian Community Church, where she taught Sunday school in Carmichael, Calif.
Survivors include her husband of 17 years, Neal; two sons, Kyle and Bryan Jones; her parents, Charles and Laura Jannsen of Ritzville; four sisters, Laura Matern, Cheryl Elkins and Lena Glennon, all of Spokane, and Beverly Richardson of Raleigh, N.C.; and a brother, Charles Jannsen Jr. of Spokane
Henry Groskurth Spokane
Funeral Mass for Henry Groskurth, 73, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holly Cross Funeral Home. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Groskurth, who was born in Froid, Mont., died Wednesday.
He was a veteran of the Army and was a 52-year resident of Spokane.
Mr. Groskurth worked as a warehouseman at Fairchild Air Force Base.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Mary Lou; five sons, Richard and Robert LaFountain, Clifford Sheets, and Joseph and Steven Groskurth, all of Spokane; three daughters, Geraldine Dooley, Jane Glover and Johanna Rowe, all of Spokane; his mother, Ruth Anerson of Glendive, Mont.; two sisters, Margaret Pederson of Las Vegas and Anne Nickerson of Idaho Falls, Idaho; a half-sister, Kellee; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Arnold Michael Jr. Spokane
Funeral Mass for Arnold Joseph Michael Jr., 33, will be at 10 a.m. today at the Worley Longhouse in Worley, Idaho. Burial will follow at the St. Michaels Cemetery in Worley. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Fairfield is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Michael, who was born in Spokane, died Tuesday.
He worked for Fastway and for Goodwill Industries as a dock worker.
Mr. Michael was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Indian Tribe.
Survivors include two sons, Eagle and Mark Michael, both of Worley; a daughter, Katrina Michael of Montana; his father, Arnold Michael Sr. of Worley; his mother, Julie Wilson of Worley; three brothers, Charlie Michael and Mark Fish, both of Worley, and Mike Walhert of New Hampshire; and three sisters, Arna Michael and Julie SiJohn, both of Spokane, and Andy-Lee Wilson of Montana.
Francis McIntyre Spokane
Funeral Mass for Francis R. “Mac” McIntyre, 78, will be at 9 a.m. today at St. Paschal Catholic Church. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. McIntyre, who was born in Greeley, Neb., died Wednesday.
He served in World War II and moved to Spokane in 1940.
Mr. McIntyre retired from Kaiser Aluminum’s Trentwood plant in 1979 after 32 years as a foreman.
He was a member of St. Paschal Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Kathleen; a daughter, Kay Wagar of Spokane; seven sons, Larry, Jeff, Joe, Tim, Mark and Greg McIntyre, all of Spokane, and Mike McIntyre of Post Falls; four sisters, Grace Roberts of Denver, Maude Butcher of Greeley, Hazel Conley of Acamto, Calif., and Ethel Fell of Yountville, Calif.; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Ellamae Hughes Spokane
Graveside service for Ellamae Odren Hughes, 82, will be at 2 p.m. today at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hughes, a 61-year resident of the area, died Monday.
She was born in Werner, N.D., and worked as a waitress.
Mrs. Hughes was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Survivors include two sisters, Lucille Engebretson of Spokane and Violet Huebert of Bend, Ore.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Joan Gardner Newport, Wash.
Graveside inurnment service for Joan Kay Gardner, 62, will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace Cemetery in Spokane. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Gardner, who was born in Spokane, died Tuesday.
In 1955 she married Eugene Gardner in Spokane.
She worked at the Spokane Country Club Restaurant and Lounge, and was a member of the Eagles lodges in Spokane and Newport.
Mrs. Gardner moved to Newport nine years ago from Spokane.
Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Gene Gardner of Newport and Glen Gardner of Spokane; a brother, Mark Shephard of Arizona; and three grandchildren.
Hazel Barbour Chewelah, Wash.
Funeral for Hazel Marie Barbour, 82, will be at 1 p.m. today at the Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah. Burial will follow at the Chewelah Memorial Park in Chewelah.
Mrs. Barbour, who was born in Addy, Wash., died Thursday.
She had lived in Stevens County most of her life, and moved back 23 years ago. She and her husband, Wilbur, moved to Chewelah in 1981.
A homemaker, Mrs. Barbour was active with Chewelah Senior Citizens.
Her husband died in 1993.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald Barbour of Seattle and Wayne Barbour of Waitts Lake, Wash.; two daughters, Sandra Griner of Spokane and Pamela Martin of Post Falls; a sister, Florence Beck of Spokane; four grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.
Albert ‘Al’ Sonnenberg Athol, Idaho
Memorial service for Albert Fred “Al” Sonnenberg, 81, will be held later. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Sonnenberg, who was born in Wisconsin, died Wednesday.
He grew up in Wisconsin, and from 1941 to 1943 served with the Air Force Reserve. He enlisted in the Army in 1946.
He later settled in the Athol area and was a former town constable.
Mr. Sonnenberg owned a transmission repair shop in Spokane for several years and moved the business to Athol until retiring in the late 1980s.
He was a charter member of the Athol American Legion.
His wife, Clara, died in 1968.
Mr. Sonnenberg has no surviving family.

Floyd Davis Spokane
A private memorial service for Floyd R. Davis, 86, will be held today. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Davis, who was born in Pipestone, Minn., died Wednesday.
He spent his early years in North Dakota and Lac LaBiche, Alberta, Canada.
A Spokane resident for 62 years, Mr. Davis was an automobile mechanic.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Leona; a son, Ronald Davis of Bothell, Wash.; two daughters, Patricia Cochran of Spokane and Carolyn Olson of Seattle; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Dennis Clark Spokane
Memorial service for Dennis Jay Clark, 63, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Audubon Park United Methodist Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Clark, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Wednesday.
He graduated from Rogers High School in 1952 and from Eastern Washington University in 1957.
Mr. Clark served for 20 years in the Army, including in Vietnam where he was a member of the Black Horse Regiment.
He worked for 16 years for Cowles Publishing Co. as a purchasing manager. He retired two years ago.
Mr. Clark was a an active member of Audubon Park United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Pat; two sons, Dennis Clark Jr. of Colorado Springs and Thomas Clark of Atlanta; and two grandchildren.
