Thunderstorms Bring Hail, 50 Mph Gusts
One-inch hail and winds gusting to 50 mph were reported in the Okanogan region Thursday as a wave of thunderstorms swept through the Inland Northwest.
The National Weather Service reported no serious damage in the Spokane or Coeur d’Alene areas from the first big thunderstorm of the season.
Streets in some places were covered with water and were temporarily flooded.
Winds at Spokane International Airport peaked at 32 mph Thursday afternoon, and about a quarter-inch of rain fell in a threehour period.
One-inch hail fell in Brewster on the Columbia River downstream from Grand Coulee Dam. Large hail also was reported in Othello in the Columbia Basin.
Weather Service forecaster Todd Carter said the cooler air moving in from the west will bring scattered showers today with winds from 15 to 25 mph, maybe higher in exposed areas. High s will be near 60 degrees.
