Prep baseball, soccer

Neil Logue logged another win on Tuesday, with the usual suspects providing the offense.

Logue (4-0) pitched a five-inning, three-hitter to lead second-place Mead (10-4, 9-3) to a 12-2 victory over fourth-place University (7-7, 7-5) in a Greater Spokane League baseball game at Seafirst Stadium.

Sam Hess and Brandon Muzatko backed up their senior classmate, Hess with a solo home run, his fifth, in the first inning and Muzatko with a bases-loaded triple in the third.

Elsewhere, first-place Ferris (12-2, 11-1) fought off a 9-3 deficit with an eight-run fifth to defeat visiting Shadle Park 11-10.

Mike Robinson’s three-run homer highlighted the Saxons’ big inning, then reliever Steve Socha shut down the Highlanders (5-9, 4-8) in the sixth and seventh for the save. Shadle’s Chet Womach hit his fourth homer, a three-run shot in the third.

At Hart Field, Justin Folkins and Ben Miller had back-to-back homers in the third and visiting Central Valley (9-5, 8-4) pulled away from Lewis and Clark 12-1 to take over third place alone.

CV’s Brian Chance pitched a four-hitter, striking out four and walking none. Chris Wheaton doubled for the Tigers (8-6, 6-6).

Gonzaga Prep (6-8, 6-6) tied LC for fifth, as Sean O’Connor and Zach Yarbrough had back-to-back, two-run singles in the seventh for a rally at Mt. Spokane (2-12, 2-10).

Yarbrough struck out eight and allowed one earned run. Jamie Ham of the Wildcats struck out seven and allowed two earned runs.

Nick Froscheiser hit a grand slam in the sixth and league hitting leader Aaron Farr provided the go-ahead run in the seventh with a double as North Central (6-7, 5-7) roared back for a 7-5 win at Rogers (3-11, 2-10).

Jon Tibbets of NC allowed one hit, a bunt single, through five innings. The Indians built a 5-1 lead, as Justin Miller went 4 for 4, with two RBIs, and Danny Crowley and Taylor West had two hits and two runs apiece.

Shae Lanphere had five RBIs for the day, and Kris Allen threw a five-inning, two-hitter in the opener as East Valley (11-4, 7-1) swept visiting Clarkston 10-0, 6-3 in the Frontier League.

Steve Henderson added a two-run double in the first game for EV, and T.J. Horgan had an RBI single during a five-run third in the nightcap. Justin Romesburg of the Bantams (7-9, 2-6) had two doubles and a triple on the day.

Dusty Druffel went 4 for 4 and singled home the go-ahead run during a four-run fifth as Pullman (7-8, 5-4) defeated visiting Medical Lake 11-9 to knock the Cardinals (12-3, 8-1) into a first-place tie.

Pullman’s Aaron Linehan had three RBIs, including a two-run homer in the second. The Greyhounds’ Nick Paulson added three RBIs. ML’s Jeff Mitchell was 4 for 4, with two RBIs.

Colville (14-1, 8-1) tied for first with a 13-4 win at Deer Park (2-13, 1-8). Jason Spears (7-0) struck out nine for the Indians, and Jared Bateman and Matt McGlothern had two RBIs apiece. Colville hosts ML in a twinbill Saturday.

Chewelah (11-4, 7-2) moved within one game of first place with a 10-0 win over visiting Newport (2-11, 2-7). Craig McQuain (6-1) pitched a five-inning, two-hitter and was 3 for 3. The Cougars’ Ryan Walters was 4 for 4.

Kris Granlund struck out 11 and Ian Ashley went 2 for 4, with three RBIs, as Lakeside (6-7, 5-4) defeated visiting Riverside 8-4. David Rice of the Rams (3-12, 0-9) went 2 for 3.

Boys soccer

Cheney (10-2-1, 5-0) clinched the Frontier League title with a 2-0 win over visiting West Valley (4-4-3, 0-3-2).

The first goal began with a long punt by Cheney goalkeeper Tyler Stitt. Nate Gosse sent the ball to Chris Oyolokor, who shot it in at 17 minutes. Bill Dennstaedt scored 5 minutes later, after a scramble on a throw-in.

Cheney will be seeded into the state playoffs unless it loses twice at district. District begins Tuesday, with WV against Clarkston in a loser-out match.

EV (8-4-2, 3-1-1) clinched the No. 2 spot to district with a 3-1 win over visiting Clarkston (4-6-4, 0-4-1). Alfy Szafransky broke a 1-all tie with a goal at 44 minutes.

Pullman (8-0-1) all but guaranteed itself of the Great Northern League title with a 1-0 win over visiting Riverside (7-1-1) on a goal by Souza.

Pullman wraps up its season Saturday vs. Medical Lake. Riverside meets Colville (4-4-1) on the same day.

Elsewhere, Marshall Wilson scored twice and set up the other goal as ML (5-4-0) notched a 3-1 win at Chewelah (1-8-1). Chewelah’s season is completed.
