TV Debates Planned

Candidates for major Idaho offices who are running in contested races in the May 26 primary will face off in a series of televised debates, starting this Thursday.

The Idaho Debates will air on Idaho Public Television statewide. They are sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Idaho and the Idaho Press Club.

Here’s the schedule:

Lieutenant governor candidates in the Democratic primary, Sue Reents and Cheri Erwin, will debate Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Republican incumbent Butch Otter is unopposed in the primary.

Controller candidates in the Republican primary, Harold Orien and Ron Pollock, will debate May 6 at 9:30 p.m. Democratic incumbent J.D. Williams is unopposed in the primary.

The four Republican candidates for the 2nd Congressional District seat will debate May 14 at 9 p.m. Democrat Richard Stallings is running unopposed in the primary.

Superintendent of schools candidates, both Republican and Democratic, will debate May 18 at 8 p.m. The four Republicans will debate separately from the two Democrats, with a coin toss determining which group goes first.

State treasurer candidates in the Republican primary Barbara Bauer, Ron Crane and Trudy Jackson will debate May 21 at 7:30 p.m. No Democrat is running.

Idaho Supreme Court candidates will debate May 23 at 5 p.m.
