Claude ‘J.R.’ Headley Jr. Spokane
Memorial service for Claude E. “J.R.” Headley Jr., 71, will be at 1 p.m. today at Spokane Christian Center. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Headley, who was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, died Wednesday.
He served in the Navy during World War II, and then worked as a driver and estimator for Quick Service Transfer Co. for 25 years in Los Angeles.
Mr. Headley moved to Spokane in 1984 from Whittier, Calif., and worked with neighborhood centers until 1993 helping the elderly maintain their homes.
He was a member of the Teamsters Union.
His wife, Marcella Headley, died in 1976.
Survivors include three daughters, Gloria Lektorich of Spokane, and Shirley Wright and Janet Dodson, both of Glendale, Ariz.; three brothers, Harold Headley of Sun City, Calif., Donald Headley of Claremont, Calif., and Leon Headley of Irvine, Calif.; a sister, Rosemary Heinrich of Irvine; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Earl Hein Ritzville, Wash.
Memorial service for Earl F. Hein, 75, is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Reardan, Wash. Ball and Dodd Funeral HomeSouth is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hein, who was born in Reardan, died August 7.
He was raised on the family wheat farm and in 1941 graduated from Reardan High School. After graduation, he worked on the farm for a few years.
Mr. Hein owned his own ranch near Selah, Wash., from 1951 to 1961, and then lived in Seattle for about seven years.
He moved back to Ritzville for a few years and then lived in Othello, Wash., until 1992, when he returned to Ritzville. He worked in Othello for Sargent Pump and Irrigation.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Whitney of Veradale and Kathy Meyers of Bridgeport, Wash.; and a grandson.

Bernice Frybarger Spokane
Vigil service for Bernice L. Frybarger, 74, is planned for 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Burial is scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mrs. Frybarger, who died Tuesday, was born in St. Joseph, Kan.
She lived in Spokane for 47 years and was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish and the Eagles Lodge.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Leonard; two sons, Randy and Kenneth Frybarger, both of Spokane; a brother, August Collins of Kansas; three grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

Jack Sikes Sr. Spokane
No service will be held for Jack G. Sikes Sr., 79, at his request. Burial was Aug. 7 at the International Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ellensburg.
Mr. Sikes, who was born in Filer, Idaho, died Aug. 1.
After graduating from high school in Filer he moved to Seattle, where he worked for Boeing Co. building B-17 bombers.
He married Ada Parcel in 1942 and they moved to Ellensburg in 1951, where they farmed until their retirement.
Mr. Sikes was active in Manastash Grange, serving as master several times. He also served as a volunteer firefighter and was a Kittitas County Fair Board member for several years. He was twice honored as farmer of the year.
Mr. Sikes moved to Spokane in 1987.
His wife died in 1990.
Survivors include three sons, Carl and Jack Sikes Jr., both of Spokane, and Jim Sikes of Ellensburg; two daughters, Jean Seaward of Yakima and Karen Carroll of Moses Lake; two brothers, Art Sikes of Lacey, Wash., and Glen Sikes of Portland; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Lorene Kindschy St. Maries
Graveside service for Lorene Elizabeth Kindschy, 92, will be at 10 a.m. today at Lakeview Cemetery near Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Kindschy, who was born in Sandpoint, died Sunday.
She grew up in Sandpoint and in 1923 graduated from Sandpoint High School, where she was the captain of the girls basketball team.
Mrs. Kindschy worked as a lifeguard at the Sandpoint City Beach, and received a bachelor’s degree in education from Eastern Washington State College in Cheney.
She taught school in Montana before moving to Spokane, where she taught at Grant School. She retired in 1970.
Mrs. Kindschy moved to St. Maries in 1995.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Survivors include two nieces, Helen Peterson of Sandpoint and Lois Baldwin of Boise; and two nephews, Gene Peet of St. Maries and Dale Bryan of Colorado.
Gary Miller Spokane
Memorial service for Gary J. Miller is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Mr. Miller, who was a 50-year resident of Spokane, died Tuesday. He was 57.
He was born in Spokane, and served in the Army in Korea during the 1960s.
Mr. Miller worked as a shop foreman at Camtel Fabrication Inc. for the past several years and was a well-known auto racer at Stateline Speedway.
Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Mary Ellen; a daughter, Heidi Skeen of Spokane; a brother, Jim Miller of Nine Mile Falls; two sisters, Jackie Miller Ernst of Spokane and Marilyn Swanson of Chesterton, Ind.; and a grandson.

Mary Lou Mahana Spokane
Memorial service for Mary Lou Mahana, 68, was Thursday at Spokane Valley United Methodist Church. Mrs. Mahana, who was born and raised in New Martinsville, W.Va, died Aug. 4 in a car accident in West Virginia.
She had worked for Safeco and was a longtime Spokane resident.
Mrs. Mahana was a member of Spokane Valley United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmie; two sons, Shawn and Chris Mahana; a sister; a brother; and two grandchildren.

Stella ‘Trudie’ (Mason) Russell San Luis Obispo, Calif.
Memorial service for Stella G. “Trudie” (Mason) Russell, 73, will be Saturday in San Luis Obispo.
Mrs. Russell, who was born in Deer Park, died July 30.
She graduated in 1942 from Chewelah (Wash.) High School, and was a homemaker and an accomplished seamstress.
Mrs. Russell was a former longtime Cheney resident and moved to San Luis Obispo a few years ago.
She was a member of the Lutheran church.
Survivors include her husband, Leonard; a daughter, Penny Russell of Boston; a son, Nicholas Russell of San Luis Obispo; five sisters, Donna Gummere and Judy Prufer, both of Spokane, Geri Torno of Cheney, Marj Hazelmyer of Tacoma and Marianne McGilvary of Mesa, Ariz.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Marie Hemmerling Kirkland, Wash.
Funeral service for Marie E. Hemmerling, 92, is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pines Cemetery.
Mrs. Hemmerling, who was born in Spokane, died Aug. 7.
She moved to the Spokane Valley in 1934 and worked for the Valley Clinic as an X-ray technician for many years.
Mrs. Hemmerling was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and the Spokane Valley Pioneers. She was active in the Women’s Credit Association and was in the past president’s club.
In 1993 she moved to Kirkland.
Her husband, Rudolph, died in 1946.
She is survived by a son, Richard Hemmerling of Canby, Ore.; two daughters, Ann Moos of Kirkland and Joan Buchbinder of Fresno, Calif.; a brother, Albert Karlsten of Upland, Calif.; eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
George Lyons Spokane
Memorial service for George R. Lyons, 64, is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North.
Mr. Lyons, who died Tuesday, was a lifetime resident of Spokane.
He served in the Coast Guard from 1951 to 1959 and worked as a salesman for Thrifty Homes for about 20 years.
Mr. Lyons was a member of the Eagles Lodge No. 2.
His wife, Kaye Lyons, died in 1994.
Survivors include his companion, Joan Lewis of Spokane; a stepson, Jeri Lyons of Spokane; a brother, James Lyons of Bellingham; a sister, Alice Utecht of Everson, Wash.; and a grandson.

Jane (Heimbigner) Davis Spokane
Funeral for Jane E. (Heimbigner) Davis, 78, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville, Wash. Concluding service with vault burial will follow at Ritzville Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Davis, who was born near Marcellus, Wash., died Tuesday.
She graduated in 1937 from Ritzville High School and worked at the Ritzville Journal Times, reporting the social news of the community.
Mrs. Davis also worked at Ritzville High School as a secretary and bookkeeper until 1943, when she went to work as a receptionist in a doctor’s office.
In 1946, she married Winston Davis. They lived in Ritzville for a year before moving to Spokane. He was in the Air Force, and they lived in Newfoundland from 1962 to 1964, before returning to Spokane.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Eric Davis of Kennewick and Brent Davis of Aloha, Ore.; two daughters, Carol Naught of Thornton, Wash., and Kay Anyan of Selah, Wash.; four brothers, Martin Heimbigner of Spokane, Walter Heimbigner of Ritzville, Eldon Heimbigner of Ephrata, Wash., and Richard Heimbigner of Helena; and seven grandchildren.

Averill Dunlap Spokane
Vigil service for F. Averill Dunlap, 84, is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is set for 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Jesuit House Chapel near Gonzaga University. Private inurnment will be held.
Mr. Dunlap, who was born in Vancouver, Wash., died Wednesday.
He moved to Spokane in 1934 and in 1938 graduated from GU.
Mr. Dunlap worked as a territory manager for Westinghouse Electric.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen; two sons, Dave Dunlap of Spokane and Robert Dunlap of Portland; two daughters, Sharon Dunlap of Corona Del Mar, Calif., and Janet Kozowski of Portland; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
