New Horse Therapies Presented

A horse is a horse, of course, of course, but understanding them isn’t always that simple.

Owners can learn new ways to relate to their horses at an Alternative Therapies in Equine Management seminar Aug. 29 at the Spokane Falls Equestrian Centre, 2205 W. Gibbs Road.

Topics include feeding practices, using reflex points on horses’ bodies to test for nutritional deficiencies and pinpoint lameness, stimulating acupuncture meridians in the feet for maximum performance and eliminating energy blocks that create musculo-skeletal and nervous system problems.

The seminar runs from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $45 for registration by next Tuesday or $55 at the door ($25 for Pony Club/4-H members). For information, call Debby Sims at (208) 686-5108 or Blanche Hill at (509) 276-6978.

* Pony league: Speaking of horses, there’s something new at The Appaloosa Museum in Moscow, Idaho - actual appaloosas.

Cindi Herres of Pomeroy, Wash., has loaned a year-old filly, Cats Top Priori-Te, and her mother, Dabba Te, to the museum for viewing and petting. Other exhibits trace the history of appaloosas, their connection to the Nez Perce tribe and their use in circuses, rodeos and by cowboys.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. For more information, call (208) 882-5578, ext. 279.

* Here, Stubby: Would your pet by any other name not seem quite right?

We’re looking for pets who resemble their names, or are named after a physical feature, for an upcoming Pets page story. Write to Jim Kershner, Features Department, The Spokesman-Review, P.O. Box 2160, Spokane, WA 99210, or e-mail to jimk@spokesman.com.

Prize pooches: Baseball? Boring. Exhibition football? Forget it. This weekend, Animal Planet’s National Dog Championships series is back on the tube.

The TV network will broadcast coverage of the Houston Kennel Club Dog Show, one of the largest shows in the country, Sunday from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Look for it in Spokane on TCI cable channel 54.
