Nampa May Be Second-Largest City In State

From Staff

A rapid growth rate could turn Nampa into the state’s second-largest city after the results of the 2000 census are released.

Ken Harward, the executive director of the Association of Idaho Cities, said Nampa is poised to jump ahead of Pocatello and Idaho Falls to become the state’s second most populous city.

Intermountain Demographics estimated Nampa’s June 1998 population at 46,046, a 62 percent increase since 1990. The most recent available estimates for Pocatello and Idaho Falls, from 1997, put their populations at 51,344 and 48,079.

Nampa was Idaho’s No. 4 city in population in 1990 and was No. 6 in 1980, he said.
