Some Renters Not Paying Utility Bills

From Staff Reports

Renters who don’t pay their utility bills are costing the city money.

Most renters’ landlords pay for city utilities - water, sewer, garbage and street lights. But renters who are responsible for their utilities haven’t always paid their bills before moving. That costs the city about $3,000 per year, estimated Finance Director Shelly Enderud.

The City Council will consider making landlords financially responsible for the utilities provided to their properties at its regular meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at city hall.
