Vancouver Seeking Olympics

Vancouver, British Columbia, and the nearby ski resort of Whistler have been chosen to represent Canada in a bid for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

The Vancouver-Whistler entry beat out Quebec City and Calgary, Alberta, host of the 1988 Winter Games. The 2010 host city will be chosen in 2003.

Tennis, one of three Olympic sports that dissented from Friday’s international agreement to unify drug policies, expects to fall into line before February’s summit on drugs in sports.

Olympic gold medalist Gary Hall was cleared by a U.S. District Court judge to swim in an international meet despite a marijuana-related suspension imposed by FINA, swimming’s world governing body.
