Eagles Soar On 14 Treys
Eastern Washington, with the help of a game-high 17 points from Tracy Ford and 14 3-pointers as a team, defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 75-48 Saturday in the consolation game of the TCU Horned Frog Invitational at Fort Worth, Texas.
“We shot the ball well, especially on 3s,” said EWU head coach Jocelyn Pfeifer. “I think our players had some fun tonight. Everybody scored. It was good to come back and win a game in this tournament.
Texas Christian defeated Eastern Washington 74-58 on Friday.
Ford made 5 of her 7 3-point attempts and substitute guard Heather Dukes made 4 of 5 in compiling 12 points. Eastern’s other double-figures scorer, guard Courtney Horner wasn’t quite as hot but made two 3-pointers and finished with 10 points.
Kelly Pilkington was EWU’s leading rebounder, grabbing 12 in 23 minutes of playing time off the bench.
Eastern (2-5) shot .467 (14 of 30) from behind the 3-point line but .368 overall.

Whitworth 67, L&C 48
Sophomore forward Jamie Wakefield scored 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting and added 10 rebounds and four steals to pace the Pirates over the Lewis & Clark Pioneers in a Northwest Conference game at the Whitworth Fieldhouse.
Whitworth (3-2, 1-1) took an early lead and led 37-12 at the half. The Pirates’ biggest lead, 49-23, came with 12:25 left in the game when sophomore guard Star Olson, who finished with 11 points, scored on a short jumper. All 11 Whitworth players scored.
Lewis & Clark (3-3, 0-2) went on a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 49-32 with 8:59 left, but drew no closer. Reserve guard Hilarie Jones led the Pioneers with 15 points on 6-of-18 shooting. Whitworth shot 43.4 percent.
Lewis & Clark shot 29.3 percent.

At Tempe, Ariz., the Sun Devils rolled to victory in the opening game of their Wells Fargo Classic.
Arizona State, which shot 55 percent in the second half, led by as many as 49 points.
Tenille Jeffries had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Gonzaga (1-5). Jessica Malone added 10 points for the Bulldogs.
Gonzaga plays Pacific in the consolation game today and Arizona State plays St. Joseph’s for the championship.

An early Scenic West Athletic Conference showdown between the Vikings (11-0) and Cardinals (3-1) failed to develop as Ricks used a 16-point first-half run to take control of a SWAC opener in Rexburg, Idaho.
North Idaho was led in scoring by Becki Huddle and Mandy Lindhe who had 11 points apiece.
Caroline Beus scored 22 and Alison Pincock 19 for Ricks.
