Voters May Split Up School District Today
The Bonner County School District, formed 48 years ago, may cease to exist at the end of the day.
If voters approve a ballot proposal to divide the district, then two new school districts will take its place Wednesday.
The proposed West Bonner County School District, District 83, would be centered in Priest River. The proposed East Bonner County School District, District 84, would be centered in Sandpoint.
The boundary between the two districts would be on the east side of Laclede.
The two new districts would function as one until the end of the fiscal year, when two new school boards would take control.
To pass, the measure must be approved by a simple majority in each of the two proposed districts. Residents must vote within their proposed district.
Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Polling places in the proposed West Bonner County School District are Priest Lake Elementary, Idaho Hill Elementary, Edgemere Grange Hall, Priest River Elementary, Laclede Community Hall and Blanchard Community Hall.
Polling places in the proposed East Bonner County School District are Clark Fork Junior/Senior High School, Hope Elementary School, Kootenai Elementary School, Northside Elementary School, Dover Community Hall, Farmin/Stidwell School, Sandpoint High School, Sagle Elementary School and Southside Elementary School.
