Bennett, Gonnella Team Up

Morgan Bennett dominated the inside and Gina Gonnella provided a spark off the bench as Mead defeated Shadle Park in Greater Spokane League girls basketball Tuesday night at Mead.

Bennett had 18 of her 22 points in the first half as the Panthers took a 33-27 lead. She also grabbed nine rebounds and had six steals.

Gonnella hit 6 of 9 shots for her first double-figure game.

The Panthers held Shadle’s Amy Ridings to nine points, eight below her average.

Carly Barnes continued her offensive surge with 16 points as the Bullpups picked up their fourth straight win.

Megan Black hit 7 of 8 free throws in the fourth quarter as the Titans hit 13 of 17 from the line to pull away from the visiting Pirates.

Vanessa Shelton handed out nine assists and Casey Lektorich grabbed 11 rebounds for the Titans, who had four players in double figures, led by Lektorich’s career-high 15.

Janell Wendel scored a career-high 20 points and the visiting Tigers’ half-court trap took effect in the second quarter.

Freshman Sarah Bassett hit 11 of 15 free throws for the Tigers. Alice Stearns had 11 rebounds and Sara Holdren nine for the Indians.

Marisa Liepman poured her a career-high 25 points to fuel the Bears’ victory at Ferris.

CV’s lead reached double figures in the first quarter and grew to 20 points in the third.

Sabrina Brazzle helped Ferris make the game respectable with a career-high 13 points.
