‘Rocky’ Returns To Magic Lantern

It’s not exactly the movie gift that many of us might have wanted, but the Magic Lantern Cinema and Pub is bringing us something special as we prepare for Christmas.

At 10 p.m. tonight and Saturday, the little movie theater (and pub, remember) at 123 S. Wall will present showings of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”

Or, we should say, again present.

The movie extravaganza combines a showing of the 1975 movie (starring Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick) with a live, audience-participation performance. It was a Spokane staple for nearly eight years before the building’s former tenants, Kathryn Graham and Larry Blair, cut the run.

Strangely enough, the cancellation occurred two years ago, almost to the day.

The resurrection will feature longtime “Rocky Horror” MC Pat Kavanaugh, who helped the current owners find a print of the film, along with the acting troupe directed by Chad McDougal.

“We’re going to see how it goes,” said Michelle Craig, the theater’s assistant manager, when asked how long the run would last. “We have the option, if it goes well, to keep it for a month. And we might opt to do that depending on how things work.”

Tickets are $4 at the door but can be purchased in advance, along with toast, rice and water bottles.

Admission is limited to those age 21 and over.
