Chart-topping singer Mariah Carey is set to appear in New Line Cinema’s “The Bachelor” opposite Chris O’Donnell. Carey will play Ilana, an opera singer, ex-girlfriend and potential bride to O’Donnell, who has 24 hours to get married and collect $100 million.

The singer joins a cast including Renee Zellweger, James Cromwell and Brooke Shields.

The extended cameo role will be Carey’s first official crossover to film. She was set to make her feature acting debut starring in Universal action comedy “00-Soul” opposite Chris Tucker, but that has been put on hold.

Carey is also attached to star in and record the soundtrack for Columbia Pictures’ “All That Glitters,” based on an idea by Carey about a singer who is discovered and romanced by a deejay she ultimately leaves when her success threatens his need for control.
