Moretti Wins, Retires
Gianpiero Moretti’s MOMO Ferrari had the least problems in a trouble-filled race, driving away with a record victory in the Rolex 24-Hours of Daytona.
The international combo of Italian-car owner Moretti, two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Arie Luyendyk, Didier Theys of Belgium and Mauro Baldi of Monaco gave Ferrari its first victory at Daytona since 1972.
It was a bittersweet victory for Moretti, 58, who finished the race in the car and was then carried to the victory podium on the shoulders of his crewmen. He then announced his retirement as a driver.
