Duke Remains No. 1

Compiled From Wire Services

Duke and North Carolina held the top two spots in The Associated Press’ men’s college basketball poll, setting up a No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup this week.

The Blue Devils, who stayed in the No. 1 spot for the third straight week, will play at North Carolina on Thursday night.

The end of Stanford and Utah’s perfect seasons last week caused a shakeup in the rest of the Top Ten.

Kansas moved up two places to third, the same jump Arizona made to fourth.

Utah, which had won its first 18 games until losing at New Mexico on Sunday, dropped from third to fifth. Both UCLA and Connecticut moved up two places to sixth and seventh, while Kentucky, which lost at home to Florida on Sunday, dropped one spot to eighth.

Stanford, which started the season 18-0, lost home games to Arizona and Arizona State last week, and fell from fourth to ninth. Purdue again rounded out the Top Ten.

After a 2-4 start that was the worst in coach Tara VanDerveer’s 12 seasons, Stanford has won 10 of its last 11 and climbed from ninth to sixth in The Associated Press women’s basketball poll.

Tennessee swept all 38 first-place votes to hold the No. 1 spot for the 13th straight week.

North Carolina climbed one spot to fifth and was followed by Stanford, Texas Tech, Arizona, North Carolina State and Florida.

Washington is ranked 20th.
