Obituaries

R.E. Boies Spokane

Funeral service for R.E. “Bob” Boies, 81, will be at 2 p.m. today at Fowler United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Boies, who was born in Port Angeles, Wash., died Monday.

He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and played the trumpet in the National Guard band.

In 1939 he married Betty DeLong, who died in 1985.

From 1937 to 1942 he played with the Chet Griffith Orchestra at the Davenport Hotel and was lead trumpeter in the Post Army Band at Camp Roberts, Calif., from 1947 to 1968.

Mr. Boies also played with the Norm Thue Orchestra and was a life member of the Spokane Musicians Association.

He was also a member of the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades No. 269, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Washington State Society of Sons of the American Revolution, the Eastern Washington Genealogy Society and the Fowler United Methodist Church, where he participated in the bell choir.

In 1987 he married Margaret Widman-Sterling.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert Boies of Spokane and Larry Boies of Bothell, Wash.; two stepdaughters, Dianne Gribble and Yvonne Biggins; five grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, two great-grandchildren and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fowler United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.

Bobbye Jerue Cheney

Visitation for Bobbye Jerue, 68, will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-Cheney. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Jerue, who was a 48-year resident of Cheney, died Tuesday.

She was born in Covington, Tenn., and in 1935 moved with her family to Long Beach, Calif.

In 1948 Mrs. Jerue graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach and in 1950 moved to San Francisco.

She and her husband, Joe, moved to Cheney in 1950, and owned and operated Jerue Funeral Home for 40 years until 1995.

Mrs. Jerue was a member of the Washington State Funeral Directors Association, Inland Empire Funeral Directors, a 50-year member of Martha Chapter 60 of the Order of Eastern Star, P.E.O. Chapter A.J., El Karnak Temple 6 of the Daughters of the Nile, and the Cheney United Church of Christ.

Her husband of 44 years, Joseph Jerue, died in 1995.

Survivors include three sons, Michael and Terry Jerue, both of Medical Lake, and Warren Jerue of Spokane; a daughter, Lynne Anderson of Olympia; a sister, Mary Graham of Sacramento, Calif.; seven grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cheney Care Center.

Marcian ‘Fuzzy’ Brislawn Spokane

Graveside service for Marcian “Fuzzy” Brislawn, 80, will be at 2 p.m. today at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Brislawn, who was born in Sprague, Wash., died Saturday. He was a resident of Spokane for 52 years and served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War.

Mr. Brislawn worked as a mail clerk for the Postal Service.

Survivors include his wife, June; and a son, Mike Brislawn of Kent, Wash.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Jerome Enos Spokane

Memorial service for Jerome J. Enos, 89, will be at 7 p.m. today at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Enos, a 40-year Spokane resident, died Wednesday.

He was born in Coeur d’Alene and had worked as a machinist in the roofing industry.

His wife, June, died in 1992.

Survivors include two daughters, Jeanette Jensen of Spokane and Jacqueline Wright of Sultan, Wash.; a son, Jerry Enos of Spokane; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Elmer Smith Ewan, Wash.

Funeral service for Elmer Smith, 82, will be at 10 a.m. today at the Church of the Nazarene in Ewan. Burial will follow at the St. John Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Smith, who was born in Ewan, died Tuesday.

In 1934 he graduated from Ewan High School and then farmed near Ewan.

He married Nancy Dechenne in Coeur d’Alene in 1939.

Mr. Smith was a member of the Eaton Grange and the Washington Cattlemen’s Association.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Neal Smith of Spokane; a daughter, Sharon Smith of Mercer Island, Wash.; a sister, Helen Lowry of Spokane; and six grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Southeastern Washington Home Health and Hospice of Colfax or to the Ewan Church of the Nazarene.

Uldene Graff Spokane

Service for Uldene May Graff, 98, will be at 11 a.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pines Cemetery.

Mrs. Graff, who was born on Prince Edward Island, Canada, died Saturday.

She was a 76-year resident of Spokane and graduated from The Deaconess Nursing School.

Mrs. Graff was a homemaker and was a member of Opportunity Free Methodist Church and Philanthropic Educational Organization, chapter D.R.

Her husband of 74 years, Frank Graff, died in 1996.

Survivors include a son, Robert Graff of Spokane; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Maxine Hansen Spokane

Service for Maxine E. Hansen, 80, will be at 3 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Private inurnment will be held.

Mrs. Hansen, who was born in Slope County, N.D., died Tuesday.

She was a longtime Spokane resident and worked for Heath, a subsidiary of the Boeing Co.

Mrs. Hansen was a member of the Corbin and Sinto Senior centers and Northeast Community Center.

Her husband, Elmer Hansen, died in 1969.

Survivors include a son, Arvin Hansen, and a daughter, Karen Wilson, both of Spokane; a stepson, Gerald Hansen of Spokane; a stepdaughter, Betty Canestro of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, Jack Betson of Yakima; two sisters, Wanda Newberry of Salem, Ore., and Marion Stevens of Kent, Wash.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Helen Morris San Diego

Memorial service for Helen G. Morris, 91, is pending.

Mrs. Morris, a longtime Spokane resident, died last week.

She was born in Minneapolis and graduated from North Central High School.

Mrs. Morris worked for the Tull and Gibbs furniture store in downtown Spokane and then was the credit manager at Sears for several years. She moved to San Diego about a year ago.

Her husband, Len Morris, died in 1957.

Survivors include a son, Regan Esper of San Diego; two sisters, Florence Hastings of Pasco and Eleanor Matthiesen of Seattle; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Thelma Bencich Kellogg

At her request, no service will be held for Thelma R. Bencich, 83. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bencich, who was born in Wardner, Idaho, died Wednesday. She graduated from Kellogg High School and was a lifelong Silver Valley resident.

Mrs. Bencich was a homemaker, and worked for the Bunker Hill Smelter during World War II. She was also a cook in a logging camp.

Her husband, Stanley, died in 1979.

Survivors include a son, G. Mike Bencich of Kellogg; and four grandchildren, all of Spokane.

Lynn Peterson Spokane

Visitation for Lynn Peterson, 80, will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, Saturday and Sunday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Graveside service will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Peterson, who was born in Choteau, Mont., died Tuesday.

She moved to Spokane as a child and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Bill; two daughters, Carol Poore of Springfield, Ore., and Pat Soule of Reno, Nev.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

David Wells Spokane

Memorial service for David Brent Wells, 60, will be held at a later date. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wells, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Jan. 26.

He was an appraiser and purchaser of antiques.

Survivors include his mother, Audrie Wells of Bremerton; a brother, Frank Wells of Bremerton;, and a sister, Jeri Evans of Seattle.

Joe Braswell Hayden, Idaho

No service will be held for Joe B. Braswell, 77. Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Braswell, who was born in Baker City, Ore., died Monday.

He moved to North Idaho more than 20 years ago and settled in Hayden.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley; two stepsons, Frank Franta of Arizona and John Franta of Post Falls; two stepdaughters, Ellen McDonald of Coeur d’Alene and Judy Seybath of Greenacres; two brothers, Allan Braswell of Baker City and Ed Braswell of Colville, Wash.; a sister, Leanna DeBoeu of Baker City; 12 stepgrandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Palmer ‘Paul’ Harnish Spokane

Private interment will be held for Palmer C. “Paul” Harnish, 88, at a later date. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Harnish, who was born and raised in Spokane, died Sunday.

He sang with the Mendelssohn Group in the 1930s and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

Mr. Harnish returned to Spokane and worked as a salesman for several years.

He was a member of the Elks.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
