Arizona State shot 62 percent from the field to defeat Washington State 79-70 in a Pacific-10 Conference women’s basketball game Thursday night at Friel Court in Pullman.
The Cougars (9-10, 3-7 Pac-10) were led by Alke Dietel’s game-high 22 points. Victoria Harrod came off the bench to score 13 and Tricia Lamb finished with 11.
After ASU (9-10, 5-5) led 43-28 at halftime, Lamb led off the second half with six unanswered points to close the Sun Devils lead to nine, 43-34, with just 1 minute gone. ASU responded with seven unanswered points of its own, bringing the lead to 50-34 at the 16:40 mark.
The Cougars managed to close the Sun Devils’ advantage to five points with 30 seconds to play, but ASU knocked down 5 of 6 free throws in the final half-minute to secure the win.
