Alpine skiing/snowboarding

49 Degrees North will host a USSA sanctioned Giant Slalom snowboard race this weekend, featuring athletes racing for national points as well as an open citizens class. Racing will start at 10 a.m. both days. Info 935-6649.

Free ski and snowboard lessons are given every Saturday at Lookout Pass for ages 5-18. Beginner lessons start at 10 a.m. and upper-level lessons at 11:30. Info - (208) 777-7701.

In Canada, Kimberley is offering night skiing Tuesday through Saturday until 9:30 p.m.

Nordic skiing

Feel like playing a little poker? The Panhandle Nordic Club is hosting the 7th annual Best Hand Fun Ski at Fourth of July Pass Saturday. Participants will ski 8K while being dealt cards at various points along the course. Prizes will be awarded for the top-three hands. Registration is at 11 a.m. in The Ski Hut with a cost of $10 per person or $25 per family.

In the Methow Valley, the Mazama area and the Methow Community Trail have been groomed for the weekend.

Snowmobiling

Mount Spokane has been without new snow for a week, but sources report excellent sledding conditions with trails still being groomed on a regular basis.
