Hints From Heloise
Dear Heloise: I’d like to share a hint that has benefited my family and me and, I hope, many others.
Because of an illness that leaves me weak and fatigued, grocery shopping can be difficult, often leaving me too tired to put away the groceries. When checking out at the grocery store I have all nonperishable items placed in plastic bags and all of my perishables placed in paper bags. This is not a problem at the store because I presort my purchases and put the dividing stick between them.
On returning home I put away only the paper-bagged perishables and then rest. The nonperishables can stay in the car until I am ready to put them away.
The paper bags are also recycled by my children, who have various uses for them. Another plus comes from the ability to recycle the plastic bags at the grocery store. - Mrs. L. Drummond, San Marcos, Calif.
Dear Heloise: Here is a hint for yard-sale shoppers. Take a variety of spare batteries with you.
This way you won’t have to pass up a good bargain just because you don’t know if it will work once you get it home. - Renita Smith, Brighton, Mo.
