Quesnell Leads Post Falls To Victory Over Sandpoint

High school basketball

Visiting Post Falls came from be hind to top Sandpoint 53-49 for the second time this season in a Border League game Saturday.

Chad Quesnell led the Trojans (10-8 overall, 7-7 league) with 15 points. He scored a career-high 43 in Post Falls’ 67-62 win over Sandpoint (6-13, 3-12) three weeks ago.

Post Falls plays host to league-leading Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday.

Sandpoint finishes the season at home Saturday against Lewiston.

East Valley 53, Clarkston 51 (OT)

Jesse Quirk hit a 3-pointer with 6 seconds left to lift the Knights (3-15, 2-12) past the Bantams (5-12, 3-11) at EV.

Nick Olson, who had 12 points in the second half, grazed the rim with a last second shot for Clarkston.

The teams meet next week in Clarkston with the winner the third seed to the Frontier League tournament and the loser fourth.

Derrick Driggs led the hot-shooting Lumberjacks with 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field and 5 of 5 from the foul line against the visiting Spartans.

The second-place Lumberjacks (12-4, 6-1) shot 20 of 32 from the field in the second half.

Mark Raebel scored 12 points, collected nine rebounds and dished out four assists for St. Maries.

The Spartans dropped to 5-10, 1-6.

After being tied at halftime, Kootenai turned the ball over 10 times in the third as the Wampus Cats (11-4, 5-2) broke away for the win at Kootenai (9-8, 1-5).

Melanie Duley led the Spartans with 11 points and six assists as they crushed the visiting Lumberjacks.

Candice Carpenter collected 10 rebounds for the Spartans, tied with Lakeland for third in the Intermountain League at 5-5. Priest River lost the coin toss and will play as the fourth seed in the playoffs.

Tiffany Holdahl scored a team-high 10 points, including two 3-pointers, for the Lumberjacks (4-16, 1-9).

Amber Matthews led the balanced scoring for the Bears with 6 of her 11 points in the first quarter as the Bears defeated the host Hawks (7-11, 5-5).

Megan Duvall scored a team-high 12 and snagged six rebounds for the Hawks. The third-seeded Hawks play their first playoff game Tuesday against Kellogg in a loser-out game at Lakeland 7 p.m.

The top-ranked Bears (10-0) clinched first-place and will have a bye to start their playoff competition.
