Michigan Pummels Indiana
Men’s Top 25
Bob Knight has made headlines with tirades and chair-throwing. Yet this time he was subdued. What could he say?
Knight watched helplessly Sunday in Ann Arbor, Mich., as Jerod Ward had a career-high 24 points and 10 rebounds and No. 22 Michigan (19-8, 9-5 Big Ten) beat Indiana 112-64, the most points ever allowed by a Hoosiers team coached by Knight.
“If you asked our players, they couldn’t give you an answer as to what happened,” Knight said. “It looked like we made no effort to prepare for the game, neither the players nor the coaches.”
The loss was the second-worst for Indiana (18-8, 9-5) since Knight took over for the 1971-72 season, just off the 106-56 loss to Minnesota on Feb. 27, 1994. The most points allowed by a Knight team at Indiana had been in a 108-89 loss to Minnesota in the 1989-90 season.
Louis Bullock scored 26 points and Robert Traylor had 22 points and 11 rebounds for the Wolverines, who shot 62 percent. Michigan hit a school-record 15 3-pointers and had a 45-27 rebounding edge.
Larry Richardson scored 13 points for the Hoosiers.
