Work To Begin On Flood-Damaged Parkway

From Staff And Wire Reports

State parks officials have secured the final $25,000 needed to repair flood damage to the Coeur d’Alene Parkway, and the stalled project is scheduled to start back up immediately.

“We got the go-ahead, and we’ve told the contractors to begin work,” state Parks chief Yvonne Ferrell said Monday.

The linear, lakefront park that extends the Centennial Trail along the lakeshore east of Coeur d’Alene suffered heavy erosion damage from flooding in the past year.

The Department of Parks & Recreation secured a $180,000 grant for the repair job, but had some trouble coming up with the required 25 percent match. It got a $20,000 donation from AT&T and some small pledges from local groups, but as of early February, the job was stalled for lack of the last $25,000.

Ferrell said Monday that the state now has identified flood emergency money that’s available for the project, and put it back on track.

The news comes just in time, she said. “The water’s started to come up.”
