Chili With Beef, Beans Gets High Marks For Taste

Rick Bonino Food Editor

As you may recall, Lloyd’s Barbeque Beef received the highest score of any entree sampled by The Spokesman-Review’s reader food panel last year.

So it was with high expectations that we served panel members one of the new refrigerator-case chilis from the Minnesota meat company: Beef Steak Chili With Three Beans (although four were listed on the label) and Fire-Roasted Anaheim Peppers.

The verdict: not great, perhaps, but pretty good. While the color was kind of muddy, the meat chewy at times and the beans a bit scarce, panelists praised the flavor and moderate amount of fire.

It probably won’t top the ‘98 list, but, hey, even Vince Gill can’t win a Grammy every year. (Or can he?)
