UI’s Second-Half Rally Lifts Vandals To Win Over 49ers Curry And Baumann Heat Up At The Right Time For Idaho

Avery Curry scored 15 of his 23 points in the second half Thursday night as the University of Idaho beat Long Beach State 72-64.

Clifford Gray had 12 points and six rebounds and reserve Kevin Byrne added 11 points for the Vandals (15-10, 9-6 Big West), who trailed by as many as six points early in the second half.

The Vandals can advance to the Big West tournament at Reno, Nev., March 6-8 with a win Saturday night at Boise State.

The 49ers held a 49-47 lead with 9-1/2 minutes left when Idaho went on a 14-2 run to go ahead for good.

The Vandals made 6 of 9 foul shots in the final 56 seconds to maintain their lead. Kris Baumann, held scoreless for the first 39 minutes, was 5 of 6 in the final 40 seconds.

Antrone Lee led Long Beach State (10-17, 5-10) with 23 points and three steals. D’Cean Bryant had 14 points and seven rebounds and Andrew Betts had 13 points and nine rebounds for the 49ers.
