Ernie Els had the best round of the day with a 63 to pull within three strokes of leader Robert Karlsson midway through the Dubai Desert Classic golf tournament in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Karlsson shot a 6-under-par 66 to move to 13-under-par 131 after 36 holes.
In Valencia, Calif., Billy Mayfair narrowly clung to his Nissan Open lead.
Mayfair, after five bogeys and five birdies, finished the second round with a par 71, leaving him 6-under and still the leader by one shot.
