Parrish, Goalie Help Seattle Do It Again Thunderbirds Defeat Chiefs Despite Leeb’s Pair Of Goals

Mark Parrish, whose three first-period goals spurred the Seattle Thunderbirds toward their Western Hockey League victory over the Spokane Chiefs on Saturday, did his share again Sunday.

Parrish pounded home a game-clinching goal on a third-period power play as the T-Birds defeated the Chiefs 5-2. Seattle won 8-2 at Spokane on Saturday.

Parrish’s 29th goal and tough goaltending by Jeff Blair enabled Seattle to extend its recent domination of the season series. After the Chiefs won the first three meetings, the Thunderbirds have outscored them 21-10 in the last four, while earning three victories and a tie.

Sunday, Greg Leeb scored both Spokane goals by rebounding Trent Whitfield shots. The goals ran his team-leading total to 27.

Seattle’s Jeremy Reich also had a pair, including a backhander that broke a 1-1 tie after 17:05 of the first period. Reich’s second goal, from the left circle, made it 3-1 after 5:10 of the second.

Parrish, who also had an assist, has eight goals and 14 points in Seattle’s seven games with Spokane.

Blair turned back 44 Spokane shots. The Chiefs outshot the Thunderbirds 46-35.
